This year the concert features a special set of songs which have been written on Elizabeth Krehm’s texts by Canadian composer Ryan Trew. Her writing ranges from grade 2, to journals as a teenager. Her texts are evocative and are a window into her heart and mind. Ryan’s music reflects the intimate and personal nature of the poetry and prose

Science: Fiction or Fact? The TSO and the Ontario Science Centre present an intriguing exploration of sound, technology, space, and mind-blowing science experiments! All budding scientists are encouraged to bring their curious minds and be prepared to be a part of this interactive concert experience.

Programme to include music from Jonathan Newman, Evan Mitchell, Fucik, John Williams, Vivaldi, Ryan Trew, Holst and Stravinsky.

Flute Works from Across the Lake A Musical Road Trip through Ontario with Flute Music by Ontario Flutists (Robert Aitken, Dianne Aitken, Amy Hamilton, Chris James, Kaili Maimets, Nancy Nourse, Alheli Pimienta, Laurel Swinden, Jamie Thompson). From solos through to octets, these notable Ontario flutists explore works from all corners of their home province, Ontario, and beyond.a musical trip through Ontario with Dianne Aitken, Robert Aitken, Amy Hamilton, Chris James, Kaili Maimets, Nancy Nourse, Alheli Pimienta, Laurel Swinden, and Jamie Thompson. This concert will feature selections from Ryan Trew’s Four Pieces for Flute Ensemble.

THE BIG FAT FLUTE SHINDIG will feature a performance of Ryan Trew’s Four Pieces for Flute Ensemble as performed by Charmaine Bacon and other faculty and guests of the festival.

WHAT’S HAPPENIN’ AT THE FLUTE SHINDIG?
Action-packed days of flute activities for all ages and all levels of flutists and teachers.
This means BEGINNERS, JR. HIGH/MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL, UNDERGRADS, GRAD STUDENTS, ADULTS (amateur & professional), and BAND DIRECTORS (flutists and non-flutists!) The only “requirement” is a DESIRE to learn and improve!

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Volunteer Committee is pleased to present Musical Sensations.

Join the KWS and conductor Evan Mitchell as they explore the traditional physiological tastes experienced by humans – bitter, sour, sweet, and salty – with Ryan Trew’s composition Taste. Edward Cho, 2013 winner of the Ken Murray Concerto Competition, debuts with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony by performing Shostakovich’s witty and satirical Concerto No. 1 for Piano with Trumpet. The concert closes with Beethoven’s joyous Symphony no. 7, with a guided listening tour by Evan Mitchell.
